Storm Water Management
For any sort of development whether large or small storm water runoff has become a major factor in planning. Residential,
commercial and industrial development results in a large proportion of the surface being covered by impermeable surfaces -
such as roofs, parking areas and roads. When rain falls on these surfaces, the majority of the water quickly runs off into
drains and then into nearby streams and rivers.
Surface run-off can rise by up to 80%. As a consequence, during storms, watercourses receiving the run-off have to cope with
larger and more intense flows. This creates an increased risk of flooding, both within developments and downstream. Storm water
run-off from impermeable urban surfaces also picks up and carries pollutants, including heavy metals and hydrocarbons that can
adversely affect the quality and environment in receiving waters.
The Wavin solution
Wavin Storm water Management systems have been developed to provide a method of source control in two ways:-
- By providing temporary storage for excess flows and limiting outflow to streams and rivers
- By providing soak ways to infiltrate storm water back into the ground.
It may also help to provide an improvement in the quality of run off. The modular nature of Wavin Storm water Management
systems means that they can be tailored to suit the specific requirements of each site. They can be used to provide temporary
storage, attenuation and infiltration capacity for run-off for all sizes and types of site: from individual houses up to the
largest commercial developments.
The systems comprise:-
- AquaCell storage/infiltration system - Individual polypropylene modules assembled together to form an underground structure, used for storm water storage or as a soak away.
- Control manhole –
- A chamber that controls flow volumes in downstream pipes, or directs excess flows to storage or soak away
- Either a Wavin Garastor unit or a concrete chamber with a Wavin Orifice Plate can be used
